Protocol: Imaging is selected according to your symptoms, dental history, and clinical findings. Digital X-rays provide detailed two-dimensional views of the teeth and supporting structures, while CBCT (Cone Beam CT) creates high-resolution three-dimensional images when additional detail is needed. Our Planmeca imaging technology allows precise evaluation and treatment planning while limiting imaging to what is clinically necessary.

Clinical Notes: Three-dimensional CBCT imaging can reveal anatomical relationships that may not be visible on conventional X-rays, including root structures, jawbone dimensions, impacted teeth, and the bony components of the TMJ. What is the difference between an X-ray and a CBCT scan? Dental X-rays create two-dimensional images of specific areas. CBCT captures a three-dimensional view, allowing your dentist to examine teeth, roots, bone, and surrounding anatomy from multiple angles.
Why would I need a 3D scan? CBCT may be recommended when conventional X-rays do not provide enough information for diagnosis or treatment planning, particularly for implants, complex root canals, impacted teeth, or jaw and TMJ concerns.
How does CBCT help with dental implants? Three-dimensional imaging allows the dentist to evaluate available bone, nearby anatomical structures, and the proposed implant position before treatment.
Can CBCT help evaluate TMJ problems? Yes. CBCT can provide detailed views of the bony structures of the temporomandibular joints. Soft tissues such as the joint disc are better evaluated with other imaging methods when necessary.
Is CBCT useful for root canal treatment? n selected cases, high-resolution CBCT can reveal complex root anatomy, hidden canals, fractures, or areas of infection that may not be clear on conventional X-rays. It is not routinely required for every root canal.
Is the radiation exposure high? The amount varies according to the type and size of the scan. Imaging is selected only when the expected diagnostic benefit justifies the exposure, and the smallest appropriate imaging area is used whenever possible.
